Acting Career

Little is known about Susie Mathers’ filmography. The most reliable source hints at a probable role in the 1954 film “This Is My Love” but this credit remains not official on major movie databases.

Considering that we know very little about her acting career, it could be that Susie Mathers only worked a couple of times, probably at the beginning of her career. Besides she might have switched to another profession after that.

Family Ties

Susie’s life story is ultimately inseparable from that of her brother’s success. While Jerry Mathers went on to become a household name, it appears that Susie chose a life away from the limelight. Some online sources say that apart from Jerry Mathers, she has another sibling named James Mathers as well as a nephew Noah Mathers, which indicates a bigger household.

Her Brother, Jerry Mathers

Jerry Mathers, born Gerald Patrick Mathers in 1948, in Sioux City, Iowa, is a former child actor who gained fame for his role as Theodore “Beaver” Cleaver on the classic sitcom “Leave it to Beaver” (1957-1963). Through his spotless image and the endearing portrayal of the curious and sometimes playful younger brother, he conquered the hearts worldwide.

His acting career began at a young age. At only two years old, he starred in a department store advertisement, drawing upon his innate gift for performing. This first job of his was the launching pad for bigger parts like a joke with vaudeville comedian, Ed Wynn and movies such as, ‘This Is My Love’ and ‘The Trouble with Harry’ by Alfred Hitchcock.

Later in 1957, things turned around for Jerry when he got the most coveted role of Beaver Cleaver in “Leave It to Beaver”, a show about the daily lives of the Cleaver family. Within no time, the show attracted a lot of attention, putting Jerry Mathers on the map. For six years, he played the role of Beaver, perfectly conveying a sense of childhood in us all, from the youngest to the oldest viewer.

The next few years saw a decline in Jerry Mathers’ public appearances. He did everything from spinning vinyl as a DJ to a brief stint as owner of a deli. He, additionally, attended nostalgia conventions and made a few television show appearances as a guest.

Susie Mathers’ story highlights the fact that not all siblings of well-known people follow the same line. While Jerry Mathers starred on TV, Susie had to live her life under the radar. Maybe in the near future, there will be more information coming out about her short stint in acting or the life she opted to lead.
